How do I register for the CIA Exam?

To take the CIA Exam, you must be an enrolled candidate in The IIA’s CIA program. You can apply to the program after meeting one of the following entrance CIA requirements.

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree or higher
  • A qualifying professional auditing designation
  • 5+ years of internal audit experience
  • Be a student in your final year of university

Once enrolled in the CIA program, you may register for the CIA Exam through The IIA’s website whenever you’re ready.

When should I take the CIA Exam?

CIA Exam dates are available throughout the year on a rolling schedule. You can take the exam parts in any order you like. For example, you can start with Part 2, then take Part 1, and finally, Part 3. Or 1, 2, and then 3, or any other order that you think will bring you the most success.

Keep in mind that you have three years after enrollment in the CIA program to pass all three CIA Exam Parts.

What does it mean to be Exam Day Ready?

Becker wants you to be confident and successful on exam day, and our exam review outlines a program that will equip you to be so. With years and years of student data, we’ve established benchmarks for success that we call Exam Day ReadySM.

To become Exam Day ReadySM in an exam part, students must make the following progress per exam part:

  • Watched at least 80% of lectures
  • Correctly answered at least 80% of practice questions
  • Score at least 50% on both simulated exams
What is the CIA Challenge Exam and who is eligible?

The CIA Challenge Exam is an accelerated pathway to earning the CIA certification for professionals with qualifying credentials (e.g., CPA, CA, CISA, etc.) and internal audit professionals with ten or more years of experience in internal audit, quality assurance, risk management, audit/assessment disciplines, compliance, external audit, or internal control. I originally purchased a CIA Exam Review course, but am now eligible for the Challenge Exam. Can I change/transfer courses?

Becker-The IIA CIA Exam Review to Becker-The IIA CIA Challenge Exam Review Access Policy

This policy explains the process in which purchasers of a Becker-The IIA CIA Exam Review course are eligible to transfer their course access to a Becker-The IIA CIA Challenge Exam Review course because of the new 10-year professional experience pathway announced by The Institute of Internal Auditors (The IIA) in Q1 2026.

Background information
Until early 2026, eligibility for the CIA Challenge Exam was having an active CPA, CA or CISA license from an approved qualified accounting body.

In early 2026, The IIA introduced an additional pilot pathway to CIA Challenge Exam eligibility that allows professionals with at least 10 years of experience in internal audit or related fields to be eligible. This pilot program is available for the June, September, and November 2026 testing windows. The application window to join this pilot program is September 30, 2026. For more information on this additional pathway to CIA Challenge Exam eligibility visit https://www.theiia.org/en/certifications/cia/challenge-exam/professionals/.

Policy Language

For candidates dedicated to advancing their internal audit careers who meet the eligibility requirements for the new 10-year professional experience pilot program pathway, Becker offers a complimentary course transition for current Becker CIA students who qualify. Due to the launch of the new experience pathway pilot program, students who initially purchased one of the standard 3-part Becker-The IIA CIA Exam Review courses may qualify for a complimentary course transition to the Becker-The IIA CIA Challenge Exam Review Essentials course. Additionally, students who had access to The IIA’s Learning System 3-part CIA course and later received free access to Becker-The IIA CIA Exam Review in early 2025, are also eligible for a complimentary course transition to the Becker-The IIA CIA Challenge Exam Review Essentials course. Becker students who purchased the IAP or a single-part Becker-The IIA CIA Exam Review Essentials course are eligible to purchase access to the Becker-The IIA CIA Challenge Exam Review Essentials course at an exclusive 50% discount off retail price. Eligibility for the CIA Challenge Exam is determined solely by The IIA.

To be eligible for the Challenge Exam Transition, students must complete the following steps:

  1. Have purchased an eligible Becker CIA Exam Review product (3-part, single-part, or IAP) directly from Becker or an authorized partner and be outside of the standard 10-day return policy.
  2. Submit your Challenge Exam program application in the IIA’s CCMS.
    1. This step includes completing and uploading the experience verification form.
  3. After obtaining official approval from The IIA to sit for the CIA Challenge Exam, provide a copy of your authorization to test or the eligibility confirmation email from The IIA by emailing Becker at beckercustomerservice@becker.com, subject line “CIA Challenge Transition”, with documentation confirming your eligibility for the professional experience Challenge Exam pilot pathway.
    1. Submitted documentation must clearly show: Student Name, Date of Eligibility, and Confirmation of Challenge Exam status.

Upon confirmation by Becker of eligibility for the Transition, students will:

  • Receive an email confirming the update to their course access within five (5) business days.
  • Be enrolled immediately into the Becker-The IIA CIA Challenge Exam ReviewEssentials course (complimentary access for eligible 3-part CIA package students; discounted for CIA single-part and IAP students).
  • Have their enrollment in the Becker–The IIA CIA Exam Review course permanently deactivated as part of the transition. Students will no longer retain access to the original CIA Exam Review course or course progress once the Challenge Exam Review course access is granted.

Important Terms and Conditions:

  • What is the deadline? Transition requests must be submitted while your original 3-part course license is still active. Expired courses are not eligible for transition. Additionally, The IIA is only accepting applications for this pilot program through September 30, 2026 so candidates should research the status of the 10-year professional experience pilot pathway.

  • Course Progress: Please note that The CIA Challenge Exam course is a separate enrollment. Progress from any other CIA Exam Review course(s) will not be transferred.

  • One-Time Offer: Students are limited to one (1) CIA course to CIA Challenge course transition per purchase.

  • Course/Access Length: Students who have access to the CIA Essentials course or a CIA single part who are taking advantage of this transition policy will be enrolled in the Becker-The IIA CIA Challenge Exam Review Essentials package with 18-month access. Students with access to the CIA Premium or Pro level courses who are taking advantage of the transition policy, will also be transitioned to the Essentials course if requested before June 18, 2026. After this date, they will be transitioned to the Becker-The IIA CIA Challenge Exam Review Premium package with unlimited access and a printed textbook.

  • Geographic Availability: This policy applies to purchases made in the United States and international regions where the CIA Challenge Exam is administered.

  • Abuse Policy: Becker reserves the right to deny the transition to any student who abuses the policy. Examples of abuse include repeated requests for transfers and violations of the EULA such as sharing account credentials.

  • Refunds: The transition benefit is non-refundable once processed. Access to the original CIA Exam Review course cannot be reinstated. And the original CIA package paid for is also not refundable.

  • Flexpay Eligibility: individuals who purchased their original Becker-The IIA CIA Exam Review course using Becker’s Flex Pay financing, and have not paid their balance in full, are not eligible for this complimentary course transition. Once the flex pay balance is paid in full, the individual is eligible for the complimentary course transition.

  • What is the cost? For students with access to a 3-part CIA Exam Review course (Essentials, Premium or Pro), the transition is complimentary ($0). For students with access to a Becker single-part CIA or IAP Exam Review course, the transition cost is $349 - a 50% savings on the retail price of Becker-The IIA CIA Challenge Exam Review Essentials course.
