Indiana CPA CPE requirements
After you earn your CPA license, you'll need to take continuing professional education (CPE) courses and renew your license on a regular basis. The guidelines can be a bit confusing, so we're walking you through the Indiana CPA CPE requirements and license renewal information so you can ensure your license stays in good standing.
Renewing your Indiana CPA license
Indiana CPAs must renew their license triennially, or every three years, with the cycle ending on June 30th. So, if your license went into effect on July 1, 2024, you would renew it by June 30, 2027.
License renewal periods and CPE reporting periods are slightly different, as the CPE reporting period ends on December 31 of the year preceding your renewal. For example, if your license renewal period runs from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027, your CPE reporting period is January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2026 so you will need to meet your Indiana CPE requirements by that date.
To renew your license, follow these steps:
- Create an account or log in to your Access Indiana account at mylicense.in.gov
- Once in the portal, you'll fill out the renewal application
- Pay the renewal fee and hit submit
- Print the verification for your records
You can also complete the application via mail, but there is an approximate four-week turnaround.
Indiana CPE requirements
To meet your CPA CPE requirements, you need to complete 120 hours of qualifying coursework by December 31 of the year preceding your renewal date. Within those 120 hours, there are additional requirements and factors to consider:
- No fewer than 20 hours per calendar year. This means you can't complete all your hours in one year to "get them out of the way," so to speak.
- You must have at least 12 hours of CPE in Accounting and or Auditing topics during each three-year reporting period.
- You must have at least four hours of approved Ethics CPE during each three-year reporting period.
Becker's course, Ethics, Integrity, and the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct (Expanded Version) meets Indiana's four-hour Ethics requirement.
- Only 50% of your CPE, or 60 hours, can come from self-study. The rest must come from 'group' courses, such as attending in-person seminars or live webcasts.
- While you are permitted two hours of CPE credit for each hour of CPE you earn the first time you perform a lecture, you can't receive credit for day-to-day course instruction or repeating the lecture additional times.

How to meet your Indiana CPE requirements
To make it easier to meet your CPE requirements, we're sharing some best practices that can help!
Choose a format that suits your lifestyle
Making time for CPE is one of the biggest challenges CPAs have related to meeting requirements. While you have to earn at least 50% of your CPE through group study, this can include live webcasts. Becker's webcast calendar offers live courses at several times through the day, plus some evenings and weekends. You can also earn the rest of your credits through self-study, either through on-demand courses or podcasts, providing more flexibility to earn credits at the time that works best for you.
Keep up with your progress
Indiana has very specific guidelines within the 120-hour requirements and remembering what you've taken or what you still need, and when your CPE is due can be difficult. Using Becker’s CPE Compliance Tracker keeps all your CPE in one place (including from other sources) so you can easily see your progress, what you have left, and get recommendations for classes that align with your interests.
Block out time each month
Instead of scrambling to get 30 hours of CPE to meet your requirements before December 31, try to pace yourself. Instead, block out time to earn four hours of CPE each month—this goal will give you a cushion if you miss a month.
Take classes that interest you
CPE isn't just a necessity; it helps you build valuable skills that can help you succeed! Take CPE classes in topics you want to learn about. Maybe you want to shift from tax to audit and need to brush up on skills or you want to focus on a specific area like international tax. CPE can help you support your career goals when you take the right courses.
