Fair Value Method

 

  1. When accounting for compensatory stock options, the compensation cost for a stock option is the fair value of the option at the grant date. A method used to value an entity's investments in marketable securities. If the carrying value of marketable securities falls below the fair market value, then the value of the security should be reduced to the fair market value.
